Want to help spruce up the grounds at Jordan Creek Church?
We are on a mission to get some plants in the ground to add color
and spring beauty to our church environment!
As a Spring/Summer Project, we would like to offer you the
opportunity to purchase these items in honor of someone, in
celebration of someone or a special event (birthday, anniversary,
adoption day) or in memory of someone. There will be a display set
up for the next few weeks that will include photos and the pricing
of each plant.
We will be planting within the next couple of weeks! Thanks to
everyone for supporting our "Beautify the Church" project!
A FAITH STIMULUS INCENTIVE PACKAGE
Several weeks ago it was
announced that Uncle Sam will be providing tax rebates to more than
117 million households in our country. The hope is that putting
extra cash in people's pockets will help stimulate the economy. Of
course there are lots of ways the rebate could be "invested" to give
the economy a boost. As you consider all the ways you could use the
funds, we invite you to also think about and pray about the
possibility of gifting a portion of the rebate to the church,
something over and above your regular giving. Scott Hibben, a member
of the Iowa United Methodist Conference staff and a good friend to
Jordan Creek wrote an article recently where he asks, "as
Christians, what GOOD are we going to do with this unexpected
windfall?...Think of the modeling about faith and finances that
could take place within your family and your church if YOU stepped
forward and said, 'This is an opportunity God is giving us to make a
difference.'" Over the next week or so we will be talking more about
the opportunities we have as a church to step out with a FAITH
STIMULUS package of our own, so that we might make a difference in
our community and in our world.

News
from the Mission Field -
Dear Friends,
We apologize for our lack of contact as of late
and pray this note finds you blessed to
overflowing! Our work with the School for the
Deaf is pure joy - as long as we keep our eyes
on the Lord....the truth for each of us I
suspect! We have such a wonderful team to work
with and children that are open to learning, and
learning to live in the love of Jesus Christ.
Collette is doing healing ministry when needed,
teaching sewing and art classes, helping in the
kitchen and lending a hand wherever needed. I'm
not doing much of anything except managing to
get my clothing really dirty every day. It's a
job in which I truly excel! Seems like most
things are running better, or not at all,
nothing that a little more money wouldn't help.
Papercrete blocks are beginning to appear - if
you've not heard of papercrete let me know and
I'll be happy to fill you in! It is an
alternative building material that may just
bless millions before long.
We'll be heading back to Des Moines the first of
July for some family and friend time and hope we
may visit with you then. We pray that you might
plan time to visit us this coming year, or bring
a work team to help at the school, it is a
wonderful work of God and deserves all the help
we can give.
As always, monetary donations are needed and
appreciated. Thank you for your love and
support, we send our love and prayers to you.
Via con Dios,
Tom and Collette
The kids have a nice garden going, given it's
the first go and the soil is needing lots of

Adult Discipleship Classes –
A
New Class for Thinking People
Join us for a new
class on Sunday mornings called Seeing Gray in a World of Black and
White by Adam Hamilton.
It seems that more and more often, people in our country are divided
over the issues. Whether the issues relate to politics, or morality
or religion, we are seeing a degree of polarization that is
unprecedented. People are taking sides, aren't willing to listen to
one another or engage in meaningful dialogue about these issues.
So what do we do about it? One solution that hasn't yet been tried,
says Adam Hamilton, is for thinking persons of faith to model for
the rest of the country a richer, more thoughtful conversation on
the political, moral, and religious issues that divide us. Hamilton
rejects the easy assumptions and sloppy analysis of black and white
thinking, seeking instead the truth that resides on all sides of the
issues, and offering a faithful and compassionate way forward..
The class is an invitation to pursue a middle way between the left
and the right - and to model for our nation and for the church, how
we can listen, learn, see truth as multi-sided, and love those with
whom we disagree."
Information about the class and a sign-up sheet are on the
information table in the back of the worship area.
Starts Sunday, June 1 from 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM
in the Jordan Creek Church Library
(Sunday School and Nursery
for children will be available)
The cost is $15 for the book Seeing Gray in a World of
Black & White: Thoughts on Religion, Morality and Politics
